This is an original, unfolded, insert movie poster from 1925 for The Merry Widow starring Mae Murray, John Gilbert, Roy D'Arcy, George Fawcett, Tully Marshall, Sally O'Hara, and Clark Gable (in an early, uncredited role). Erich von Stroheim directed the classic, silent romantic drama.
The poster measures 14" x 36" and has been paperbacked (attached to a thin, acid-free paper backing for preservation, restoration and stability). Prior to restoration, the poster was in good to very good condition with pinholes on the edges from theatrical display, a few surface smudges, tiny paper loss in the lower left and upper-right blank borders, and very small paper loss in three of the corners. It had also darkened a bit from age. The poster has never been folded and is beautifully restored. Due to the paperbacking, and to protect the poster, it will be shipped in a long, flat package.
Please look closely at the photos as this is the exact poster you are buying. It is not a cropped or stock image.
This extremely rare and collectible poster, printed in 1925 to promote the initial, theatrical release of The Merry Widow, is not a reproduction or a reprint.
