Hatari! (1962)

This is an original, linen-backed, Japanese B2 theatrical movie poster from 1962 for Hatari! starring John Wayne, Hardy Kruger, Elsa Martinelli, Gerard Blain, Red Buttons, Bruce Cabot, and Michele Girardon. Howard Hawks directed the adventure thriller.  Frank McCarthy is the artist for the poster.  

This poster was displayed at the Sorimachi Toei Theater in Yokohama, Japan for the initial release of the film in late 1962.  The theater attached a large snipe (sticker) to the bottom edge of the poster to advertise the engagement of the film.  It has stayed attached to the poster to this day.  The main poster measures 20 1/4" x 28 5/8" and, with the attached snipe, now measures 20.25" in x 34.75".   It has been linen-backed for long-term preservation and display. Prior to backing, the poster was in very good condition with some pinholes on the edges from theatrical display along with some smudges from handling.  It was folded at the time of printing but the folds are less prominent after linen-backing. The poster was backed in the European style with minimal restoration.

Please look closely at the photos (this is the exact poster you are buying). It is not cropped or a stock image.  The black circles in the corners of the poster are magnets and not pins.

This very rare and collectible poster, printed in 1962 to promote the Japanese theatrical release of Hatari!, is not a reproduction or a reprint.
