This is an original, linen-backed, one-sheet movie poster from 1960 for the initial, U.S. theatrical release of Ikiru starring Takashi Shimura, Miki Odagiri, Shinichi Himori, Haruo Tanaka, and Minoru Chiaki. Akira Kurosawa directed the classic drama. Ikiru was shown once at UCLA'S Royce Hall (with the title Doomed) on March 25, 1956 as part of a Japanese film series. The film finally had a limited theatrical release in major U.S. cities in 1960 and this poster is from that release.
The poster measures 27" x 41" and has been linen-backed for long-term preservation and display. The poster was in good to very good condition prior to backing with a few smudges and tiny scuffs from handling. It was folded at the time of printing and had a small bit of paper loss at the top and bottom cross-folds, and wear on parts of other folds. The poster was backed in the European style with minimal restoration. Linen-backed posters are stored flat and rolled for shipping in a rigid, tube mailer.
Please look closely at the photos (this is the exact poster you are buying). The small black circles in the corners are magnets and not pins.
This extremely rare and collectible poster, printed in 1960 to promote the U.S. theatrical release of Ikiru, is not a reproduction or a reprint.
