This is an original, French grande movie poster from 1966 for the initial, theatrical release of The Sound of Music starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, Heather Menzies and Angela Cartwright. Robert Wise directed the classic film based on the musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Howard Terpning is the artist for the poster.
The poster measures 46" x 61" and is in good condition with pinholes and some tape residue in the corners from theatrical display. There are creases and a few tiny tears along parts of the edges. The poster was folded at the time of printing and there's an extra, vertical crease near the left edge and a faint, extra horizontal crease near the top of the poster. Most folds flatten out nicely for framing and are often desirable for vintage, collectible movie posters. There are pinhole separations at the top-left and top-center cross-folds.
Please look closely at the photo (this is the exact poster you are buying). it is not cropped or a stock image. The small, black squares in the corners of the poster are magnets and not pins.
This rare and collectible poster, printed in 1966 to promote the French theatrical release of The Sound of Music, is not a reproduction or a reprint.
