This is an original one-sheet movie poster from 1949 for the animated short film Meet King Joe. The 9 minute, Cold War-era cartoon was financed by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation as part of a series of films meant to build American confidence in capitalism and free enterprise. The film was directed by John Sutherland who previously worked for Walt Disney. Harding College, an evangelical college in Arkansas, used the films as part of their teaching and some of the films, like Meet Joe King, were distributed by MGM in theaters. This very rare poster advertises the MGM screenings of the cartoon.
The poster measures 27" x 41" and has been linen-backed for long-term preservation and display. The poster was in very good to excellent condition prior to linen-backing with some minor fold and edge wear. It was folded after printing but the folds are much less noticeable after linen-backing. Linen-backed posters are stored flat and rolled for shipping in a rigid, tube mailer.
Please look closely at the photos (this is the exact poster you are buying). The black circles in the corners of the poster are magnets and not pins.
This very rare and collectible movie poster, printed in 1949 to promote the MGM screenings of Meet Joe King, is not a reproduction or a reprint.
