This is an original, linen-backed, French grande theatrical movie poster from 1945 for the initial release of Each Dawn I Die starring James Cagney, George Raft, George Bancroft, Jane Bryan, Maxie 'Slapsie Maxie' Rosenbloom and Victor Jory. William Keighley directed the crime thriller based on a novel by Jerome Odlum. Roger Jacquier is the artist for the poster. Original French movie posters from the early to mid 1940s are extremely rare due to paper shortages during, and shortly after, World War II.
The poster measures 46" x 61.25" and has been linen-backed for long-term preservation and display. The poster was in good condition prior to restoration with some paper loss and small tears along parts of the fold lines, wear along the edges and some surface creases and smudges from handling. It was folded at the time of printing but the folds are less noticeable after linen-backing. Linen-backed posters are rolled for shipping in a rigid, tube mailer.
Please look closely at the photos (this is the exact poster you are buying). The black squares on the edges of the poster are magnets and not pins.
This extremely rare and collectible poster, printed in 1945 to promote the initial, French theatrical release of Each Dawn I Die, is not a reproduction or a reprint.
