This is an original, one-sheet movie poster from 1919 for a theatrical re-release of The Golden Thought (1916) starring Tom Mix, Victoria Forde, Barney Furey, Lillian Clark, Sid Jordan, Pat Chrisman, and Baby Lillian Wade. Tom Mix also directed the silent, cowboy western.
Tom Mix started his career under contract for Selig Polyscope and became a star after performing in more than 100 films. Mix left Selig and signed a contract with Fox Film Corporation in December 1916. When Selif Polyscope had severe financial troubles a few years later, they made deals with distributors to re-release several of Mix's movies now that he was a big star. There is no known one sheet from the 1916 release of the film.
The poster measures 28” x 42” (it has not been trimmed) and has been linen-backed for long-term preservation and display. Prior to restoration, the poster was in very good condition some wear and minor paper loss around the white edges and a few, extremely tiny surface tears near the top of the poster. It was folded at the time of printing and had minor fold wear and cross-fold separations. The poster is in very good to excellent condition after restoration. Someone trimmed away most of the excess linen border (most likely to accomodate framing).
Please look closely at the photos (this is the exact poster you are buying). It is not cropped or a stock image.
This extremely rare and collectible poster, printed in 1919 to promote the theatrical re-release of The Golden Thought, is not a reprint or reproduction.
